We see our kindergarten year as an exciting culmination of all previous experiences. The learning is still of an individual nature, hands on and sequential. The children are becoming more abstract and mature in their thinking.
We have our own goals as well as following the goals of a traditional kindergarten. The Extended Day Program, which adds another two hours to a kindergarteners day, is the beginning of the child's transition into their non-Montessori educational world. They experience a longer school day, group work, finishing within a specific time frame and more restrictive classroom movement that will be part of their elementary school day. They have the advantage of beginning this transition in a familiar setting with familiar teachers and classmates. The curriculum remains what you have come to expect from Montessori - experience oriented enrichment.
